Principal's Message
Welcome to the 2009 – 2010 school year! We are very happy you are attending Hughes! As you prepare for the new year, please remember the following:
School Breakfast/Lunch Information A healthy breakfast is offered each morning from 7:30 – 8:00 for $1.50. Lunch will cost $2.25. Beginning the first day of school, students who are not eligible for free or reduced meals and who do not have money to pay for their meals will be served an alternate meal. The alternate meal will consist of a peanut butter wafer and a carton of white milk.
Bell Schedule
The school day begins at 8:15 and ends at 2:43. There are many opportunities for students to participate in a variety of after school activities. Students should listen carefully to the daily bulletin for announcements regarding clubs, classes and clinics. For safety reasons, if your child is not participating in a school sponsored activity, we must ask that your child leave campus by 3:00.
PTA Information
Please watch for information regarding PTA membership and volunteer opportunities. Remember that, in addition to being a wonderful support for Hughes and our local schools, a strong PTA is a strong voice for children at the state and national levels as well. Please join! Welcome to incoming PTA president Laura Zellerbach!
ICES at Hughes
I am pleased to introduce a new after school program to Hughes students and parents! The International Center for Education and Sports (ICES) will offer an after school program here at Hughes at no cost to the school or to parents. The program includes academic support, enrichment and recreation and will be offered every day from 2:48 – 6:00. Please watch for application information at the beginning of the school year.
School Uniform Policy
We will continue the implementation of our school uniform policy. Adherence to the uniform policy is required for attendance at Hughes. There is no doubt that the uniform policy reduces student misbehavior and allows us to focus on providing a meaningful instructional program for all students. Thank you for your support of our efforts to provide a safe and orderly environment.
Students must wear a solid light blue, navy or white collared shirt. Note: Plaids, stripes or other designs will not be allowed.
Navy blue pants, shorts or skirts will be permitted. Blue jeans may be worn provided they are in good condition and free of logos and designs. Students may not wear sweat pants or athletic wear.
Only solid white, blue, gray and black sweaters, sweatshirts and jackets will be allowed as outerwear. These items must be logo free. Only white or blue undershirts may be worn.
