Hawks too much for owls
Just days after winning the Northern League, the Lady Owls fell to a strong Stanford team on Tuesday 2-1 in this year's All-City Semi Finals.
The Owls took an early lead in the first half but Stanford fought back to even the score 1-1 just before the half. Stanford's hustle and offensive passing kept the Owls on their heels and, with just minutes left in the game, the Hawks scored the winning goal to earn a spot in this year's championship.
Hughes dominated the game early- controlling play in the midfield. Hughes scored the first goal off of a corner kick and the defense held strong most of the game. Stanford's bench, however, was just too deep and got the game winner with just 5-minutes left.
According to coach Beebe, "all eighth grade girls played a great "last game" for Hughes and will no doubt continue their athletic endeavors in high school."
Congratulations Owls! You all had a great season and coach Beebe, and the rest of the Hughes family, is very proud of you all.
Until next year-
Go Hughes!
