Boys' Football

no playoffs for Owls

All good things must come to an end and such is the case with Hughes' football season.

The Owls hosted Hamilton on Wednesday for the rights to continue on to the playoffs. In a closely fought contest, the visiting  Wolverines came away with a 13 point win to put an end to the Owl's season.

Just before the half and down 13-0, Hughes looked as though they scored a touchdown on a short pass from Justin Maxwell to Trevaughn Garnett. The referee, however, didn't see it that way. As Garnett rumbled towards the end zone, the ref blew an inadvertent whistle assuming Garnett's flag had been pulled. It had not.

Hughes had many other chances to score but a stingy Hamilton defense intercepted three Owl passes in the red zone. So what started out as a very promising football season turned out to be a rather disappointing finish. However, as all sports go, there is always next year.

Congratulations to all the boys who practiced and played hard...your coaches and fans are very proud of you! Go Hughes!
