Greetings Hughes Families!
It is with extreme gratitude and excitement that I join Hughes Middle School as your new principal! I have a personal affinity for Hughes because I have been a Hughes parent for the past six years. As I transition from Hughes parent to Hughes principal, I will always be cognizant of the trust you have in our staff to provide your child with a quality education.
I possess over 23 years of experience as an educator in Long Beach Unified School District. I served as a classroom teacher for 13 years at Hamilton Middle School and Hudson K-8 School. At the district level, I served as the Middle School Math Advisor and as the Assistant Director of the Office of Curriculum, Instruction, and Professional Development. I have served in an administrative capacity at Barton Elementary School and most recently as an Assistant Principal at Jordan High School. My varied background has prepared me with the skills needed to lead your child's school.
I am a product of Long Beach Unified School District. I attended John Muir Elementary, Stephens Junior High, and Poly High School. I earned my undergraduate degree at the University of Southern California and my Master's Degree in Educational Leadership from California State University, Dominguez Hills. It is my goal to ensure that every Hughes student is on track for college upon their promotion to high school.
Along with the Hughes staff, I will work hard to continue the legacy of success established at Hughes through meaningful partnerships, effective communication, a safe inclusive environment geared towards student success, and ongoing effective implementation of the Common Core State Standards.
I am looking forward to meeting you and working with your child. Remember school starts on Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at 8:55am.
Wishing you all the best,
Edward I. Samuels
