Summer School Registration Begins Monday, April 10th

All 9th through 12th grade students who are interested in taking Summer School classes to make up a grade to meet graduation requirements or to fulfill college entrance requirements must register using our online enrollment system.  The online system will be available starting Monday, April 10.  Summer School registration will continue until May 14 at 5 p.m.

Current 8th through 11th graders also have the opportunity to take a Math Summer Bridge course to help prepare them for the course work that they will be studying in the coming school year.  These courses include Pre-Algebra, Pre-Geometry and Pre-Intermediate Algebra.  These courses will be taken for elective credit and the grade issued will be a Pass/No Credit.  This is an excellent opportunity to get a jump start for next year.

Summer School Registration will begin by completing the application online at www.lbschools.net/summer.  After the application is submitted, the student and parent will receive an email with directions for selecting the classes that you plan to take during the summer.  You should receive this email two to three schooldays after the application is submitted.

Hello Eighth Grade Families,

The deadline to complete your enrollment into the pathway of your choice for high school on ParentVue is 11:59pm, tomorrow night, March 1, 2017.

Failure to do so by the deadline will result in the loss of the acceptance, and your student will be assigned to a school and a pathway in the district where there is space available.

To set your intent, you can do it one of three ways:

  1. Log into ParentVue, click on “School of Choice”, click on the (blue) intend button next to the pathway you prefer, and then click on the (brown) certify button at the bottom of the page. When this is done, the screen will be green and you will get a confirmation email. Keep this email for your records.
  2.
  3. You can visit your middle school or K8 Office and ask for assistance from the counseling staff, who will help you and print a confirmation page for you.

  1. You can call the Choice Helpline at (562)997-8306, or visit Team High School Choice at 1515 Hughes Way, Third Floor, where our team will be happy to assist you in setting your intention and printing your confirmation. We will only be available until 4:40pm tomorrow afternoon, as our building closes for the day.

Regardless of which option you choose, it is very important that you not miss this deadline. Even if you are submitting an appeal for a different program, set an intent to one of your selected programs while we are reviewing the appeals. The intention set will have no effect on any appeal decision.

Please double check that you have clicked on both the blue “intend” button to the right of your preferred pathway, and the brown “certify” button at the bottom of the page to complete the process. You will receive an email confirmation. Please keep this for your records as proof of completion.

We thank you for your attention to this matter, and wish you and your family a pleasant evening.

Good Morning Eighth Grade Families,

As we are nearing the start of the High School Choice Online Application Window, which begins on December 6, 2016, we want to remind all families to double check their address that we have on record.

If you log in to ParentVue, and find your address is incorrect, or outdated, you have until November 18, 2016, to update the record for it to be reflected on this year's application.

All address changes must be made in person at your middle or K-8 school, and will require your identification and two proofs of residency at the new address.

Any changes after November 18, will be amended in the computer, but will not be considered for school of choice and residential high school priority for this year's selection.

If you have questions, please see your middle school or K8 counselor, or call the Choice Helpline at (562) 997-8306.

Good Morning Eighth Grade Families,

This is a reminder that our Shadow Day Reservation System will be open for shadow requests until Wednesday, November 16, 2016. After that date, no further requests will be accepted.

Any current eighth grade student can request up to two shadow experiences using the link below. Shadow Days are activities where eighth grade students attend school for a full or part day at a participating high school. Students will participate in pathway lessons and experience what it is like to be a high school student on that campus.

The absence from the middle school is counted as a school-based activity, similar to a field trip. Parents are responsible for transporting their student to and from the high school.

To reserve a space, please use the link below.

If you have already made a reservation, the high schools will be in contact with you as their shadow dates draw near. Contact information for the High School Coordinators can be found on our High School Choice website.

If you need assistance, please visit your Middle School Counselor or call the Choice Helpline at (562)997-8306.

The scary season has arrived – and the Press-Telegram wants to be spooked.

The newspaper is again launching its popular Scary Stories contest for Long Beach area youth. Winning entries – both stories and artwork – will be published in the Press-Telegram on Halloween, Oct. 31.

The rules are the same as last year: there will be three age categories for stories and drawings: Elementary school (K-5), middle school (grades 6-8), and high school (grades 9-12).

Here are the rules:

• The deadline is Oct. 24.
• All entries must be emailed, with the subject line “Scary Stories,” to: ptnews@presstelegram. Stories can be submitted in the body of the email, or as a Word attachment; drawings should be submitted in JPEG format, no larger than 5MG in size.
• Stories must be no longer than 650 words.
• Artwork must be original (no tracings)
• Entries will be judged based on imagination, creativity and theme.
• The winning entries will be published in the Press-Telegram on Oct. 31, and posted online.

If you have any questions, e-mail Press-Telegram City Editor Melissa Evans at mevans@scng.com or call 562-499-1280.
