Arts & Crafts Show


Mark you calendars on May 19th, 2020 for the 22nd annual Hughes Arts and Crafts Show. This awards ceremony will begin in the auditorium with presentation of awards and proceed to the cafeteria/gallery of art.  This is the same night as open house. Two Hundred ribbons will be awarded for art work and wood work courtesy of our generous PTA.   Hope to see you there!

This course concentrates on the elements of art, which is the foundation for all artwork. Due to the variation of time, Two- and Three- dimensional art projects should be introduced according to the length of course. Required art vocabulary, reading and writing assignments are included in the course work. The five components in the California State Visual and Performing Arts Framework are addressed. A portfolio is developed and a number of art-related careers are discussed.

 

GOALS: The course is intended to meet the following student needs:

 

  • Develop and expand aesthetic perception. (Aesthetic Perception)

  • Develop and expand visual arts knowledge and skills to express ideas imaginatively. (Creative Expression)

  • Acquire knowledge of historical and cultural developments, which occur as a result of varying needs and aesthetic points of view. (Historical and Cultural Context)

  • Develop a base for making informed aesthetic judgements. (Aesthetic valuing)

  • Develop a common core of knowledge that transcends subject areas. (Connections, Relations Application)

  

Students interested in continuing the study of art will experiment with many two- and three- dimensional art forms, such as drawing, painting, perspective, and three-dimensional art building upon the objectives developed in Exploratory Art 6. Emphasis is placed on the art elements and principles of design throughout the course. A variety of materials and processes are explored together with appropriate reading, writing, and vocabulary. The five components in the California State Visual and Performing Arts Framework are addressed.

Each semester is organized around new materials and new projects selected by the teacher, using progressively more advanced techniques in two- and three- dimensional art forms. Emphasis is placed on the art elements and principles of design throughout the course. Reading, writing, and vocabulary are incorporated into each lesson. A variety of art careers are introduced. The five components in the California State Visual and Performing Arts Standards. Students must have at least one semester of art in the seventh grade or obtain permission from the art instructor before being enrolled in this course.
