Enthusiastic: “Nothing can dim the light which shines within”- Maya Angelou

 

· The Hughes Instrumental program will be playing their Festival Concert on Thursday, March 12th at 6:30PM. Come support the Symphonic Band and Symphony Orchestra as they showcase their performance which will be played for the state festival the following week! Go Owls!

 

· Are you ready to listen to music, dance, and hang out with friends! Friday March 20th is our second dance of the year, titled Dancing Through the Decades. It is a 50’ through 90’s themed dance. Tickets will be available for sale before school and at lunch from Tuesday March 10th until tickets are sold out. We are only selling 300 tickets so get yours today! With your ticket purchase you will receive a wristband to wear an outfit that reflects popular attire from one of the decades or a shirt that shows popular culture from that time period. Please see posters at the ticket table or given to teachers for ideas on clothing. You must also follow the LBUSD dress code guidelines or you will be changed out. Remember, if you have more than one F or 2 D’s you will not be able to buy a ticket. Hope to see you there.

 

· Are you an animal lover? Do you want to find out how we can help cats and dogs in Long Beach who need their forever homes? Come to the first meeting of the Hughes Animal Rescue Club. BARC will meet on Thursday, March 12th in room 302 from 3:45-4:30. Come find out what we are trying to do to support animals in our city! Questions? See Mrs. Van Divort in room 302.

 

· Hello Hughes! The first Wednesdays of the month, the Airbenders will be holding waste free Wednesday. Teachers will be giving out Eco heroes to students who bring reusable water bottles; these will later be put in a raffle to win prizes like shirts and free chips. Just a reminder, students who bring reusable water bottles on Wednesday will help with climate change because of greenhouse gases that come from the production of plastic water bottles will decrease that will cool temperatures.

 

· Students, this is a reminder that personal sports equipment like basketballs, footballs, and so forth are to remain at home. If you'd like to play a sport before school or during lunch, you can check one out at the ball shed. Personal equipment will be confiscated if it is brought to school.

 

· 8th Grade-Don't forget to pick up your 8th Grade Apparel Orders today from the PTA Room, Room 102B from 3:40pm-4pm. Tomorrow is the last day to pick up your items!
